WHY GROUP THERAPY

Evidence-based group therapy programs designed to help children and teens build coping skills, form meaningful peer connections, and develop emotional resilience. Serving Mississauga & Ontario.

The Power of Group Therapy for Children & Adolescents

Group therapy is one of the most effective interventions for children and teens. Research shows that therapeutic groups provide a unique healing environment that individual therapy alone cannot replicate. At Inner Wellness Psychotherapy in Mississauga, our group programs are facilitated by registered psychotherapists who specialize in child and adolescent mental health. Unlike individual therapy, group therapy allows young people to realize they are not alone in their struggles. They learn from peers, practice social skills in real-time, and develop lasting friendships built on mutual understanding and support.

A nurturing group therapy program for children ages 7–13, designed to build essential coping skills, form peer connections, and experience positive role modelling in a safe therapeutic space.

7–9

Junior C.A.L.M Group

Designed for younger children using play-based and creative expression techniques. Activities include art therapy, storytelling, guided play, and simple mindfulness exercises to help children identify and express emotions.

10–13

Senior C.A.L.M Group

Tailored for pre-teens navigating the transition to adolescence. Includes discussion-based activities, collaborative problem-solving, peer mentoring, and more advanced emotional regulation and mindfulness techniques.

Communication

Children learn to express their feelings, needs, and thoughts clearly. Through role-playing, storytelling, and group discussions, they build the language to navigate friendships and family relationships.

Awareness

Developing emotional awareness — recognizing feelings in themselves and others. Children learn to identify triggers, understand body signals, and build empathy skills.

Learning

Age-appropriate psychoeducation on coping strategies, problem-solving, and conflict resolution. Children gain tools they can use at school, at home, and in social situations.

Mindfulness

Guided breathing, grounding exercises, and body awareness activities that teach children to self-regulate, manage anxiety, and stay present in the moment.
