What Is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized, evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help the brain process traumatic or distressing memories. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on the way the brain stores information.

 

When an overwhelming event occurs, the brain’s natural processing system can get “locked.” EMDR uses bilateral stimulation; typically through guided eye movements, taps, or tones, to help the brain “reprocess” these memories. This moves the memory from a raw, emotionally charged state to a functional part of the brain where it no longer triggers an intense physical or emotional reaction.

  • 5-6: Desensitization & Installation

    We process the traumatic memory while installing positive, adaptive beliefs using bilateral stimulation.

  • 7-8: Closure & Re-evaluation

    Each session ends with closure techniques. We continually re-evaluate progress to ensure lasting adaptive resolution.
