Helping children express emotions and heal through the natural language of play. In-person sessions in Mississauga & virtual across Ontario.

Children don’t always have the words to express what they’re feeling. Play therapy provides a safe, nurturing space where children can communicate through what comes most naturally to them — play. Through carefully selected toys, games, and creative activities, a trained therapist can help your child process difficult experiences, manage emotions, and build resilience.

At Inner Wellness Psychotherapy in Mississauga, our play therapy sessions are designed to meet your child exactly where they are developmentally. Whether your child is dealing with anxiety, behavioral challenges, grief, or trauma, play therapy offers a gentle yet powerful pathway to healing.

Play therapy is recognized as an evidence-based approach by the Canadian Association for Play Therapy and has been shown to be effective for children ages 3–12, though it can benefit older children and teens as well.

What Does a Play Therapy Session Look Like?

1. Initial Parent Consultation

We begin with a detailed conversation with parents or caregivers to understand your child's history, challenges, and goals for therapy.

2. Building Trust

The therapist creates a safe, welcoming environment where your child feels comfortable. The playroom is carefully set up with therapeutic toys and materials.

3. Therapeutic Play Sessions

Through play, the therapist observes patterns, emotions, and themes that reveal what your child is experiencing internally. The therapist gently guides the process.
