Asfia Irfan is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) offering psychotherapy in Mississauga and online therapy across Ontario. She is registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) under clinical supervision while completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University.
Alongside her clinical training, Asfia brings nearly 10 years of experience as an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), having worked directly with children, youth, and families within school systems across Ontario. This combined background in education and psychotherapy gives her a grounded, real-world understanding of how emotional, behavioural, and relational challenges show up in everyday life, at home, in classrooms, and within family dynamics.
She provides in-person psychotherapy in Mississauga at Inner Wellness Psychotherapy and affordable virtual therapy across Ontario, supporting children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Mississauga, Asfia specializes in children’s therapy, youth counselling, couples therapy, family therapy, and trauma-informed psychotherapy. She supports clients experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation, depression, trauma, behavioural challenges, grief and loss, ADHD, BPD, communication difficulties, school-related stress, family conflict, and relationship difficulties.
A core focus of her practice is working with school-aged children, young adults, couples, and their families. She supports parents and caregivers in understanding their child’s emotional world, while also helping families develop practical strategies that improve communication, emotional regulation, and connection across home, school, and daily life.
In her couples therapy work, Asfia supports partners navigating communication breakdowns, emotional distance, conflict patterns, trust concerns, and relational stress. Sessions focus on understanding interaction cycles, improving emotional safety, and strengthening connection in the relationship.
Her work also extends to youth and adults navigating anxiety, relational patterns, life transitions, and unresolved childhood experiences that continue to shape present-day emotional responses.
Asfia Irfan takes an integrative, compassionate, trauma-informed, and developmentally attuned approach in working with clients in Mississauga and online across Ontario. Her work is tailored to each client and family system, recognizing that emotional and behavioural concerns are shaped by both internal experiences and external environments.
She draws from evidence-based modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), and Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET). These approaches are used flexibly to support emotional regulation, trauma processing, communication, and behavioural change.
Therapy focuses on understanding patterns in emotions, behaviour, and relationships, while also building practical tools that can be used across home, school, and daily life. Sessions are collaborative, structured, and paced according to each client’s developmental and emotional readiness.
What sets my practice apart is the integration of clinical psychotherapy with nearly a decade of lived experience inside Ontario school systems. I have seen how emotional distress unfolds in real environments, not only in theory, but in classrooms, playgrounds, parent conversations, and family routines.
This experience has taught me that behaviour is rarely the full story. A child who is overwhelmed in class may be carrying stress that has no words yet. A teen withdrawing at home may be communicating something that has not yet been understood. A parent feeling stuck may be responding to patterns that have been building over time.
I often think of emotional development like a river system. What we see on the surface, behaviour, reactions, conflict, is only the visible current. Underneath, there are deeper streams shaped by experience, environment, and relationships. Therapy is about learning how those currents connect, so that change becomes possible not through force, but through understanding.
In my work, I do not focus on symptoms in isolation. I help children, youth, and families see the larger picture, how emotional patterns form, how they are maintained, and how they can begin to shift when met with clarity, safety, and support.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in respect for each person’s needs and lived experience. I believe people are more capable of growth than they are often given credit for, and that when someone feels genuinely understood and supported, the process of change can begin to feel less impossible and more within reach.
If you are looking for a child therapist, youth counsellor, or couple and family therapist in Mississauga or across Ontario, I would be honored to support your journey.
